"Homemade & Heartburnt" - new Buck Theorem EP

Here is my new EP, "Homemade & Heartburnt", written for and made to coincide with the session I wrote for the Homebrew Electronica podcast. It was very, very nice to be invited by Kev [the Homebrew host] to contribute a session, so I wrote some new stuff.

Rock-n-roll electro-horror. Some anxiety oversensitivity dancing. A Soma Pipe version of an older track, a fake soundtrack instrumental and a straight-up ambient track. Oh, and a Godley & Creme cover.

And here's the link to the whole Homebrew show (I start at around 40 minutes in). It's always stuffed with good and varied stuff, spanning the breadth of what electronic music is and can do.

My second appearance on the You Total Cult podcast

I am on the final episode of the You Total Cult podcast where we get together to watch one those so-bad-it's-good films, 'The Children of Ravensback', or just 'The Children', if you prefer. 

In the 1990s, when films were still banned, I used to go to a film fair where you could get all those illicit VHS copies. I bought a rough fourth or fifth generation tape of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' from there, for example. Anyway, I bought 'The Children' mistaking it for 'Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things' and was most disappointed when I watched it. But then, I showed it to my friend James in outrage and he fell about laughing. So I showed it to others and then we had about two or three parties where a gang of us got together to watch it and laugh. 

I hadn't seen it for decades, but it was released last year by Troma and so it was time to revisit. It is a film where the effects highlights are fingernails turning black and the funniest child dismemberment ever.

You Total Cult - my podcast debut.

Well, I was recently ambushed to appear on the most entertainingly nerdish podcast “You Total Cult”. I wasn’t expecting it, but it proved most fun. I was in the usual fine company - the YTC host, Mike, and James Eastwood and Rich Byrom-Colburn - and we were in a pub in Lewes as a most atmospheric mist crawled and glowed outside. 

Mike knew to catch me unguarded, priming me earlier by texting “Think of some of your oddest and most obscure films – I’ll tell you why later.” I had never been on a podcast before. I was a little taken aback that he declared I had some influence on his taste, but then we got on talking as we usually do about films and I felt on much safer ground. And then he punningly named the episode after me…
